Various travel destinations

When I am writing or just in the mood for something to do, I like to look at various travel vlogs. A lot of the ones that I find are usually food based, however, I still find them useful because there is something about watching someone prepare food and just exploring what kind of food they prepare, that really opens your eyes to the vibrancy and rhythm of a place. Weather it's Istanbul or Thailand , or a remote province of China; there really is something that makes you stop for a minute and just explore. The link I am posting on here, is a YouTube playlist I am building that I think really demonstrates the power of travel and exploration that can happen through food or just by walking through an outdoor market. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMQNmWL_5--K2TQFIqFx2yDiGHMRrjQD3

The lore and characteristics of fairies and other small creatures of myth and legend part one

Image
Fairies by Ellen Castelow Most of us think of fairies as tiny creatures, flitting about on gossamer wings, waving a magic wand, but history and folklore tell a different tale. When belief in fairies was common most people didn’t like to mention them by name and so referred to them by other names: the Little People or the Hidden People. Many explanations have been given for a belief in fairies. Some say that they are like ghosts, spirits of the dead, or were fallen angels, neither bad enough for Hell nor good enough for Heaven. There are hundreds of different kinds of fairies – some are minute creatures, others grotesque – some can fly, and all can appear and disappear at will. The oldest fairies on record in England were first described by the historian Gervase of Tilbury in the 13th century. Brownies and other hobgoblins (pictured right) are guardian fairies. They are useful ones and do housework and odd jobs around the house. In Aberdeenshire, Scotland they are h

The Irish Banshee

Irish banshee One of my favorite mythical creatures is the banshee. For whatever reason, the idea of a woman who comes out either a herald of death or as a punishment for Banshees are among the oldest Fairy folk of Ireland, associated as strongly as shamrocks and potatoes. Banshees, also known as Bean-Sidhe, were appointed to forewarn members of Irish families of impending death. Her presence alone brings no harm or evil, but to hear a Banshee in the act of keening is to have witnessed the announcement of the death of a loved one. The Banshee’s wail pierces the night and its notes rise and fall like waves over the countryside. It is said that Banshees never appear to the one who is to die but to their loved ones. In times gone by she was seen washing human heads, limbs or bloody clothing until the water was dyed with blood. Over the centuries this image changed. The Banshee now paces the land, wringing her hands and crying. Sometimes she is known as the Lady of Death or th

Book prologue draft one

Hey everyone out there; this is my first post on this blog and I have to say, I'm really nervous. I started this page because I wanted a place where I could write short stories without any pressure to be an amazing author. I love fantasy and myths and so I also wanted a place where I could share some of my favorite discoveries about fantastical creatures and maybe get some input on what I could write about in my stories. The story below is about a girl who is unknowingly rescued from being sacrificed to a dark god known as Golgoloth. He is a god worshiped by a people known as the tribe of Gaulith, who live on a remote planet, similar to that of Earth's moon. These people have the power to open up portals and access the darkest parts of the universe in order to summon their gods, and in turn, have those gods summon forth some of the darkest creatures to do their bidding. In the story the girl is being given as an offering to summon Golgoloth and gain his blessing an
